What the treatment involves
Hyaluronic acid fillers are gels placed beneath the skin with a fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula. Depending on the product and the area, they can be used to restore volume that has reduced with age, soften the appearance of certain folds and lines, or subtly enhance contours such as the lips, cheeks or chin.
Different products have different properties, so the product, quantity and technique are chosen for each area. Your practitioner will explain which product they propose and why, and what the alternatives are — including not having treatment.
Who may be suitable
- Adults aged 18 or over who would like to discuss restoring or enhancing volume in a specific area.
- People who are in good general health and have realistic expectations about what filler can and cannot achieve.
- Suitability is always confirmed in person after a face-to-face assessment and a review of your medical history.
When it may not be suitable
- Filler treatment is not offered to anyone under 18.
- It may not be appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if there is active infection or inflammation in the area, or with certain medical conditions or medications. Your practitioner will discuss this with you.
Which Lip Filler Shape Suits You?
Lip enhancement with hyaluronic acid dermal filler is tailored to your unique facial anatomy, lip proportions, and aesthetic preferences. Popular shapes and placement styles include the vertical-lift Russian technique, Heart-Shaped, Keyhole Pout, Cupid's Bow definition, Natural enhancement, and Full Volume.

Visual guide to popular lip filler shapes and techniques
1. Russian Lip Technique
Vertical LiftPlaces filler vertically from the lip base outward, emphasizing height and a distinct Cupid's bow with a flatter side profile rather than outward projection.
2. Heart-Shaped
Central FullnessConcentrates volume in the center of both the upper and lower lips, tapering softly toward the mouth corners to create a romantic heart silhouette.
3. Keyhole Pout
Subtle ApertureCarefully preserves or enhances a slight natural opening between the upper and lower lip at the center line for a soft, youthful pout.
4. Cupid's Bow Definition
Contoured PeaksFocuses on sharpening and accentuating the vermilion border and peaks of the upper lip for crisp, classic definition.
5. Natural Enhancement
Soft & BalancedFollows your existing natural lip contours, replenishing lost hydration and restoring gentle volume without altering your native shape.
6. Full Volume
All-Round PlumpnessProvides balanced, even volume across the entire body of both lips for clients seeking a visibly fuller, plumper result.
Consultation & Suitability
Not all lip shapes are suitable for every lip anatomy. At Kosit Aesthetics Clinic, our practitioner assesses your lip elasticity, facial symmetry, and medical history before recommending the technique that achieves safe, beautiful, and natural-looking results.
Potential benefits
- Can restore lost volume or add subtle definition, with the aim of a balanced, natural-looking result.
- Hyaluronic acid fillers are temporary and are gradually broken down by the body.
- Treatment can be planned in stages, allowing you to review the effect before deciding on anything further.
What to expect
Your consultation covers your goals, medical history, a facial assessment and a discussion of options, risks, alternatives and costs. You will have time to consider the information before deciding.
If you go ahead, the area is cleansed and the filler is placed in small amounts. Many fillers contain a local anaesthetic to improve comfort.
You will be given written aftercare information and details of how to contact the clinic.
Recovery and aftercare
- Some swelling, tenderness, redness or bruising at the treatment site is common and usually settles over the following days.
- Your practitioner will advise on what to avoid in the first day or so — for example strenuous exercise, heat and pressing on the area — and on when make-up can be applied.
- Contact the clinic promptly if you notice increasing pain, skin colour changes, or any change in your vision, as these require urgent assessment.
Your practitioner will give you aftercare advice specific to your treatment, which may differ from the general guidance above.
Results and longevity
Some change is visible immediately, but the final result is usually assessed once any swelling has settled.
How long filler lasts varies between products, areas and individuals, and is affected by factors such as metabolism and lifestyle. Your practitioner will explain what to expect for the product proposed — no specific duration can be guaranteed.
Individual results vary.
Risks and side effects
- Common: swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness and small bumps at injection points, usually short-lived.
- Less common: lumps or irregularities, asymmetry, prolonged swelling, infection, or an allergic or inflammatory reaction.
- Rare but serious: filler entering or compressing a blood vessel (vascular occlusion), which can damage the skin and, very rarely, affect vision. This is why assessment, anatomical knowledge and a clear plan for managing complications matter.
- Your practitioner will discuss the risks that apply to you and the specific area being treated before you consent.
If you experience severe or worsening pain, skin colour changes, changes in your vision or difficulty breathing after any treatment, seek urgent medical help (call 999) and contact the clinic.

Common questions
Will I look 'done'?
Our approach is to plan treatment around your existing proportions and to use conservative amounts. We will discuss what is realistic at your consultation, and you can always choose to do less.
Can filler be reversed?
Hyaluronic acid fillers can usually be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed. Your practitioner will explain how this applies to the product proposed and the clinic's arrangements.
Which lip filler shape suits me (e.g. Russian lips)?
The right lip filler shape depends on your natural lip borders, tissue elasticity, facial symmetry and personal preference. The Russian lip technique is popular for creating vertical height and a defined Cupid's bow with minimal forward projection, while other clients prefer natural enhancement, a keyhole pout, or heart-shaped definition. During your face-to-face consultation, your practitioner evaluates your proportions and discusses which approach will look most balanced and harmonious on you.
Do I need a consultation first?
Yes. A consultation is needed so we can assess your suitability, discuss options and risks, and give you time to decide. Treatment is never assumed.
This information is general and is not a substitute for a consultation. Suitability for treatment is decided by the practitioner after an individual assessment, and individual results vary.
